(FYI: I have stopped the shipping of my tweets from twitter to lj. So many people are doing it, it seems to be taking over lj, which is odd to me. So I'm pulling mine out. If you're curious to see what I'm tweeting, you can still follow me by checking in here.) I am currently experiencing INSURANCE RAGE. My health insurance only covered the first 16 days of my hospitalization in January, which I knew. What I didn't know was the exact amount they would cover, because the hospital was out of network (as are all such treatment programs near me), and the insurance refused to give me (or the hospital staff) a quote, or even an estimate, of what they would pay for these "approved treatment days". I tried and tried to get a number out of them, but couldn't. Long story short, last night I got a letter. The amount they are going to cover is so small that I would have been better off working with the hospital's sliding fee scale and paying cash. What a disaster. My total bills for all of this (including the part I knew I was cash pay for) is just over $10,000 so far this year. Two months of bills. And that's just my out of pocket costs, not counting the (annoying small) part paid by insurance. If anyone wins the lottery and wants to throw some of that fortune my way, I'd appreciate it. Or if you have any connections that could help me sell a kidney on the black market. I don't know how long I can continue to afford my treatment. But what choice do I have, really? Feeling: crappy
